Welcome to Doug and Connie's Ranch !

It's Dallas today. ! Doug and Francisco this morning in Sedalia city will give me an wonderful day !

The weather is announced good today, I decide to leave the  camp at 7:00 am to make profit of the coolness on the morning and the least possible traffic to ride on Route 50 West. Today I had the intention to join Sedalia city and then to connect to the Katy Trail to finish my day in Clinton city..
When I arrived in Sedalia, I walked through the old quarter of the city, it’s really beautiful! I took a picture of a large bi ( byciclette with a large diameter wheel at the front ), in front of the Andrew Carnegie  library. Doug and Francisco were putting an anti-rust layer on the  hi-wheelbike with the stack of books on top. Doug explained a quote: “two of the best things in life are riding a bike and going to the library.Together they make a perfect day.” This meeting will completely change my schedule for the day. Doug is passionate and collector of retro bikes, he has probably  fifteen bikes at home. When i explained my project to cross the US by bike from NY city to San Francisco, Doug spontaneously invites me to spend the day with his family at the ranch just outside town. The place is beautiful, Doug will show me his ranch, his horses, his land and his lake. A large luxurious property, it looks like Dallas- show everyone in France watched in the 70s.  We will have lunch in town at El Tapatio with his wife Connie, her mother-Grace Miles  and Francisco. Francisco is Argentinian, he studied at Smith Cotton High School of Sedalia and Doug was his liaison with the AFS that year and now he is at State Fair College studying to be a mechanical engineer.  ( He will tell me that it is the American dream to be able to live here) 

Doug is an orthopedic surgeon and his wife and mine are both nurses.  I introduced Doug to my brother on the phone and I explained by family and that I have a twin. Doug and Connie also have twin grandsons.

Then I  relaxed in the afternoon on their beautiful terrace and enjoy an hour relaxation on my first “rest day” after riding every day from New York City.

.We also toured the Trail’s End Plaza and I received the history of Missouri as the gateway to the west and I saw the Merci Car which the 40 and 8 group has so nicely placed on the fairgrounds-the car which France gave to the state of Missouri for assistance in WW1 and WW2-very impressive. I also found my province where I live on the gratitude car.

Tomorrow after breakfast I will have an interview with Faith and the newspaper which I am looking forward to.  Then I will continue my journey to San Francisco.

La météo est annoncée bonne aujourd'hui, je décide de lever le camp à 07h00 pour profiter au maximum de la fraîcheur matinale et du  moins de circulation possible pour rouler sur la route 50 West. Aujourd'hui j'avais l'intention de rejoindre la ville de Sedalia puis de retrouver le sentier de la Katy Trail path pour terminer ma journée à Clinton. 

Lorsque je suis arrivé à Sedalia, j'ai parcouru le vieux quartier de la ville, c'est super jolie ! J'ai pris une photo  d'un grand bi ( byciclette avec une roue de grand diamètre à l'avant ), devant une jolie bibliothèque . Doug et Francisco étaient entrain de mettre une couche d'antirouille au vélo. Cette rencontre va complétement changer mon planning de la journée. Doug est passionné et collectionneur de vélos rétro, il en possède une bonne quinzaine. Lui racontant mon périple,  spontanément Doug m'invite à passer la journée avec sa famille dans un ranch situé juste à côté de la ville. L'endroit est magnifique, Doug me fera visiter son ranch, ses chevaux,  ses terrains et son lac. Une grande propriété luxueuse,  ça me rappelle les épisodes de Dallas dans les années 80 ! Nous irons déjeuner en ville avec son épouse Connie, sa maman,  et Francisco. Francisco est argentin, il fait ses études à l'université de Sedalia et il est hébergé chez Doug.

Doug est chirurgien orthopédiste à Sedalia et son épouse Connie est infirmière retraitée. 

Je vais me relaxer l'après-midi sur leur terrasse et profiter d'une heure de relaxation dans un caisson hyperbar à  oxygène situé dans leur salle de sport du sous-sol , puis d'un autre banc de relaxation pour drainer la circulation sanguine. 

Un appel de mon frère Daniel dans l'après-midi sur Messenger m'a permis de faire une présentation de Doug et des lieux.

Nous sommes ensuite allé visiter le Trail’s End Plaza situé à Sedalia: II représente une réplique grandeur nature d'un wagon à bestiaux, d'un château d'eau, d'un moulin à vent et d'une locomotive des années 1870 dans un paysage d'herbes et de fleurs.

J'ai également vu un wagon français d'origine utilisé pendant la seconde guerre mondiale.

Les 40 hommes et 8 chevaux peints aux extrémités signifient que ce wagon contient 40 hommes et 8 chevaux (ou mulets).  Les plaques représentent les régions françaises dont la Franche Comté. Les troupes américaines ont conduit ces wagons pendant la Première et seconde Guerre mondiale. 

Demain matin après le petit-déjeuner, sur la demande de Doug je vais avoir une interview avec Faith journaliste à Sedalia , je vous ferais part de l'article dans les prochains jours.
