The 16 Lakes Trails: from the Blue Lake to Lake Tarawera

Publiée le 23/01/2018
Another great walk that took me all my energy to connect Lake Okareka to the Blue Lake, the Green Lake and the Lake Tarawera in only one day! The Tarawera Trail is one of the most demanding trail, but the Hot Water Beach worth all efforts

On the Road to the Volcano

I went across 4 lakes in a single day! A very long but good walk that brings me to a wonderful place. Hiking through natural forest, watching the wildlife and resting on this very curious place where cold and warm waters mix.

Personal *on the way* thoughts

  • What's all the fuzz about this poor lonesome cowboy riding away in the sunset? You don't start your journey when the sun is falling, that makes no sense. After all the day walking, I can say how much I was happy to reach final destination before dark. Lucky Luke was only going to the Saloon after putting the Daltons into jails...
  • I played hide and seek with the animals down the Tarawera track, trying to shoot them on camera. But they don't let them catch easily. I saw a couples of beautiful fantail birds and kingfisher blue birds as well. But they are so fast I couldn't have a good shoot. Next time I will describe them with some pictures!
  • How do we manage so much efforts, walking through the wild with so little food supply? When I compare the energy I'm spending during a day and what I'm eating, I'm quite surprised of what we can do with only few!

A little All Black suit for the Lion ;)
