Unexpected way to Christchurch

Publiée le 10/03/2018
Sometimes you make plans, but faith decides otherwise. I was half way just finishing the Abel Tasman trail and ready to continue down the west coast on the Heafy trail for another 4-5 days walk. But the weather in New-Zealand is unpredictable and started raining. I took shelter in Christchurch.

Christchurch, buried city rising

I took cover in Christchurch during the rainy days, resting and watching movies. I soon as I see a bit of sun, I rush outside to explore the destroyed city. Indeed, Christchurch just recovers from two heavy earthquakes in 2008 and 2011. Many buildings, roads and infrastructures are in renovation all over the city. A memorial was built to remember the victims and street arts make the best out of this new playground, trying to cover the scars.
I visit the beautiful exhibition "50 photographics of National Geography" at the Canterburry Museum of Christchurch, with many photos from Steve McCurry that I love.
